To promote sportsmanship on campus and enhance health awareness among faculty and students, the Office of Physical Education at Taipei Medical University (TMU) hosted the “Academic Year 114 Maple Forest Sports Competition Week” from May 18 to 22, 2026, drawing approximately 750 participants. This event marks a significant milestone in the transformation of TMU’s traditional sports day into a week-long sports festival. By integrating track and field events, ball games, and the grand finals of the TMU Basketball League, the initiative successfully weaves sports into daily campus life, shaping a healthy and vibrant university culture.
The opening ceremony kicked off on the evening of May 18, featuring Vice President Tsai as the honorary starter to officially launch the Maple Forest Sports Week. As the starting gun fired, the week’s competitions commenced. This year’s Maple Forest Week featured a diverse array of sports, including track and field, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, and team fun games, with students from various departments enthusiastically forming teams to participate. Notably, the “1st TMUBA season” took center stage during the sports week. The competitive energy built up over an entire semester erupted on the championship stage, drawing crowds of faculty, students, and alumni. The non-stop cheering from the sidelines made it the most anticipated highlight of the entire event.
Every tournament was highly competitive and thrilling to watch. The track and field events showcased speed and a breakthrough spirit; the ball games featured fast-paced offenses and defenses that thoroughly tested team chemistry; while badminton and pétanque highlighted precise skills and quick on-the-spot reflexes. Enthusiastic support from the spectators created a passionate and cohesive atmosphere across all venues.
During the closing and awards ceremony, President Wu encouraged all faculty and students to actively engage in sports and develop a habit of regular exercise. He emphasized the profound impact of sports on physical and mental well-being, as well as its value in fostering teamwork and cross-departmental communication. The President noted that the Maple Forest Sports Competition Week symbolizes the evolution of TMU’s sports meet from a single-day event into a multi-faceted, extended tournament model. This change not only broadens overall participation but also serves as a vital starting point for the development of campus sports culture.
The event successfully fostered a passion for sports and promoted the philosophy of health enhancement, further strengthening the sense of community on campus. Moving forward, the Office of Physical Education will continue to introduce diverse athletic activities, encouraging faculty and students to cultivate lifelong exercise habits, building a healthier and more energetic campus, and continuing to deepen TMU’s sports culture.
